TOKYO, Dec 18, 2017 —GMO Internet Group company, GMO Registry reports today that generic top-level domain .shop, has achieved a 74.3% renewal rate on domain names registered at the launch of general availability in September, 2016.

Operated by GMO Registry, Inc., .shop has reached over 360,000 registrations from 182 countries since its debut, ranking 13 in registration volume among other leading new gTLDs.

The ecommerce domain has been particularly popular in certain geographic regions. GMO Registry reported half of the .shop names were registered in European countries. Germany and the Netherlands hold over 23,000 and 11,000 registrations respectively, and the renewal rate of .shop registration in Europe has reached 81%, followed by 76% in South America and 74% in North America.

The registry had generated $1.2 million in premium name sales, with 1,149 premium .shop names sold in the last year. 71.4% premium name registrants renewed their .shop names.

An even higher renewal rate was reported among the .shop registration made in Sunrise period. GMO registry received a record-breaking number of 1,182 applications for .shop domains, and 97.4% of registrations made in this period have been renewed.
